Frequently Asked Questions

If your AC system is not working and it is a holiday or a weekend, call the HVAC professionals at Self Brothers Heating & Cooling. Our technicians can determine if the problem is one you can fix yourself, such as a tripped breaker, or one that requires the services of a trained, experienced HVAC technician.

There are several reasons an air conditioner may blow hot air. One of the most common is a compressor problem or an issue with a low level of refrigerant. It can also occur if the unit needs cleaning, or if there is damage to the return duct that is pulling in warm air to the system from the attic or outside of the home.

Airflow problems through the filter are the most common issue when the air conditioner freezes up. There is also the possibility that the freezing is due to low refrigerant levels, which can be checked by our HVAC technician.

If the noise is caused by a twig caught in the housing of the outdoor unit, it may be possible to fix the problem yourself. Turn off the power to the unit, and also turn off the breaker, then remove the twig. Do not attempt to fix other air conditioner problems yourself, as there are dangers, including electrical hazards, and high-pressure refrigerant systems that can be dangerous to work around.

Tim called informed n e of his ETA. He arrived promptly with coverings over his shoes. He assessed the problem, explained the problem and what's needed to repair. Tim went to his truck to get the part needed, told what the repair cost and if I wanted to move forward. He was efficient, pleasant and I was very pleased with his work. I would highly recommend Self Brothers and definitely Tim as the technician.
